At camp, it was what you slept in; you needed to be prepared-always-for a raid by the boys' cabins. If you were 'seeing someone,' wearing his sweatshirt was like a badge of honor.

Sweat tops are zipped, color-blocked, boxier and more embellished than ever before. Visible form 'statement' details had been added for more attitude and sass. They're just another example of teen apparel fashion expression.
Color is everywhere. Grey heather, still good. But now there are hues coming from all over the rainbow. The looks are polished yet still relaxed and fit the lifestyle and teen apparel fashion prefs of pre-teens and teens everywhere.
Many teen girls forego a 'real' winter coat but topping off their look with a flannel or fleece lined hoody for added warmth in the cooler months. With soldiery lines or jazzed up buttons, artfully placed, the look is tres hip and attracting teens like gangbusters.
The old Army-Navy store that supplied the customary grey flannels would be dissing the lace embellishments that appear on the shoulders and backs of today's sweatshirt tops. It used to be a total boy's club--you've come a long way baby and you're not going back.
So, yeah, the rules for teen apparel have changed. Sweats are an indispensable part of the teen apparel wardrobe and color is key to building your closet. The nice thing is that this increasing can be purchased at reasonable prices without breaking a sweat. Look for sweats with a bit of poly or elasthane or buy a size bigger to allow for shrinkability.
One thing's for sure. When you wear today's updated sweats, you will not be a shrinking violet. (Violet is a particularly hot color right now, Fyi!)

I agree! I have seen sweats all over the place lately! When I was having my baby shower last year I got at least three pairs of sweats for the little one. I personally love my sweats that I can just lounge around the house in.
